If you have never experienced it, there is nothing that
compares to a wilderness elk hunt. Those of you that have, know what I am
talking about. Cold crisp mornings, the creak of your saddle,
methodical beat of your horses hooves picking their way through the
darkness, bull elk bugling in the pre-dawn hours. The musky smell of a
rank old bulls bed, day breaking on a distant ridge, sights and sounds of
the wilderness waking up before your eyes. Does this sound exciting! Give

This is the ultimate in elk hunting. The way elk should
be hunted! No high fences to bound you or the elk, just miles of seemingly
endless elk habitat. There is no greater hunting accomplishment than having
harvested a wilderness bull elk. Pack-in elk hunts are our specialty. We raise
and train most all of
our stock for the rigors of this type of hunt. All of our equipment is top
notch and has been field tested, tried and true in the wilderness. Having
outfitted in these same areas for over 20 years we have become very
accustomed to the patterns of this particular herd. Oftentimes we know how
they are going to react before they do. Action Adventures is a full time
outfitter and elk hunting is what we do best.
On this elk hunt you will follow a long pack string through tall
stands of aspen and dark timber, along grassy alpine meadows to our base
camp deep in the Uncompahgre Wilderness. All guided rifle elk hunts are wilderness pack-in.
There are 2 hunters per guide with a maximum of 6 hunters in camp. You will
feast on 2 hardy home cooked meals, plus a sack lunch each day. Nothing is
spared for your total comfort and complete satisfaction. All hunts are 5
full days of hunting, with a day of travel time at the beginning and end of
each trip a total of 7 days in the field.

 A great hunt for the do-it-yourself hunter. Traditional wall
tent camp packed deep into the Uncompahgre Wilderness. We supply the camp
(sleeping tent, cook tent with complete kitchen, cots, lanterns, wood stoves
plus the wood is even cut and split. We pack you in and out, check on you mid
week and pack your game out as you get it. You furnish your own food and guide
yourself (we provide you with topo maps and GPS coordinates of the best
spots). 4 hunter minimum.

This is one of the best combination
elk and deer hunts you will find.
 There
is also a large number of black bears in the early seasons. This productive
ranch is completely behind locked gates. It also land locks a large tract of
National Forest which is accessed only through private land. This hunt is a hybrid of a guided hunt and a drop
camp. You are provided with lodging, 2 home cooked meals, along with a sack
lunch each day, riding horses, and a guide in
camp to show you the ranch plus GPS coordinates of the best
spots on the National Forest. This hunt allows you the freedom of a
drop camp, to hunt on your own without all the cooking and camp
chores.
It is based out of our private ranch that accesses several
thousand acres of land locked national forest and also adjoins a state
wildlife area. All you have to do
is concentrate on bagging that big bull. You are outfitted
with everything you need to have a successful hunt. If you like the
challenge of elk hunting on your own with all the extras of a full service
hunt without the high price tag, this is the one for you. Comparable guided
hunts would run in access of $5000. These are great hunts for the
veteran hunter and novice alike. You will have a
comfortable cabin to stay in and the finest in home cooked meals. Anyone filling their tags early can fish
for rainbows and brookies in our private lake. The ranch can be reached by
4WD, and provides a great opportunity for those that can't get around like
they use too. There are miles of roadless forest for those wanting to
hunt this remote unspoiled area by horseback or foot.

season cow hunts
If you are just interested in taking home some meat
we offer late season cow elk hunts on our ranch. These hunts are offered
from mid November to mid January.
